May Half Term Family Drop-In: Hand Painting Colours Workshop
Thursday 28th May
10:30am – 1:30pm
Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre (in the art gallery, upstairs)
Approx Activity Duration: 20-30 mins
Price: £5 per canvas (approx 15cmx15cm mini canvas) includes all resources
Ages: Suitable for all ages 5+ to adult (all children must be accompanied)
Booking: book a time slot and arrive any time within your slot
Overview
This drop-in family session offers the unique opportunity to meet local artist, Shelley Perry, in the gallery during her exhibition. Her paintings will provide inspiration and reference as you will be guided by Shelley to create your own “landscape in colour.” Instead of painting a traditional scene, you’ll translate the colours you see in the landscape outside the window into expressive blocks of colour, using only your hands, no brushes!
This is a relaxed, playful and wonderfully freeing way to paint, focusing on process, colour, and creativity rather than perfection.
What you’ll do
Observe the colours in the landscape around you
Mix acrylic paints to match what you see
Build a grid of colour squares to form your own abstract landscape
Paint entirely with your hands for a tactile, expressive experience
Create a mini canvas artwork to take home the same day
What to expect
Friendly, expert guidance from exhibition artist Shelley Perry
Simple demonstrations of colour mixing and hand-painting techniques
Encouragement to loosen up, experiment, and have fun
A welcoming environment for beginners, families, and experienced artists alike
Why join?
Try a unique, brush-free painting method
Learn to see the landscape in a new way through colour
Enjoy a mindful, creative activity
Take home a finished mini canvas masterpiece
Affordable, flexible, and fun
All materials included. Just book your time slot, drop in, get creative, and enjoy the process! Please note, this is not a drop-off activity. Children will need to be supervised by an adult over 18, throughout.
