This work was created as part of a neon, experimental series of work, based on photos taken at Keyhaven Marshes. It depicts the hazy early evening light at spring time, over the marshes. Painted entirely with my fingers, it is an emotional response to being outdoors in nature. Working directly with my hands creates a physical connection with the canvas, allowing the paint and colour to move intuitively and spontaneously.
Playful spray-painted patterns and flowing ink dribbles are layered into the landscape, exaggerating and celebrating the vivid colours found in the natural world. The combination of expressive finger painting, unexpected colour and energetic pattern moves beyond realistic representation, capturing instead the feeling, energy and joy of experiencing nature.
